In February, after my four week Corkscrew adventure had ended, I returned to Ireland and immediately put my newly acquired skills into action. I set up a variety of meetings with numerous Universities around Dublin, to see if they would be interested in utilizing the business concept, which I had created whilst at Corkscrew. Having received great feedback, I decided to pursue my business venture further.
The Corkscrew program really put me on the right track to setting up my own business.
Through advice given to me on the program, I was put in contact with the Irish Education Partners, who were able to shed some light on the business market which I was about to enter, as they worked in a very similar sector. This proved extremely helpful and with their expertise, I was able to make some slight manipulations in my business strategy, which assisted me in avoiding some stiff competition. I have now been given a business mentor from my County Enterprise Board, with whom I have a meeting with every two weeks, to run through my progress and any problems I have encountered along the way. The mentor is an Entrepreneur himself and is an expert in the market I am hoping to provide my service to.
The Corkscrew program really put me on the right track to setting up my own business. Before hand, I had little knowledge about the process of starting up my own company, nor the confidence to even remotely attempt to do something like I am currently doing. The guys at Corkscrew really motivated me to actually get involved and to use my ideas. Their endless enthusiasm boosted my confidence immensely. Prior to my Corkscrew experience, I had struggled terribly with anxiety and a fear of public speaking. For this very reason, in my final year of University, I managed to embarrassingly faint four consecutive times doing presentations in front of my class.
I really do believe this program brings out the best in its participants; it surely brought out the best in me.
Post Corkscrew, I really couldn’t be any different to this person. I now have the confidence to put my ideas on display for everyone to see – and love doing so. A quote I still remember from the first week of the program is “we are all professionals; everybody has something they are great at”. I really do believe this program brings out the best in its participants; it surely brought out the best in me. I wish the program great success into the future and hope others are able to experience and gain from it, as much as I have.
