HOW TO: IDEATE STARTUP IDEAS

Have you ever wanted to be your own boss? Wanted to launch your very own business, but struggled to come up with an idea? You’re not alone as the majority of people we speak with find it difficult to get that initial spark of an idea, that block of what to do and how to spot an opportunity. This workshop dispels the myth that creativity in finding a business idea is nature, rather than nurture, and takes you through a range of challenges to turn on your very own tap of business ideation. We’ll introduce you to the art of Magpieing (to collect the ideas/concepts/businesses you find interesting/shiny) and start you on your very own Ikigai (Japanese for finding your purpose) journey.

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW

By the end of the workshop you will have the tools needed to ideate your very own business ideas/concepts, as well as having a better understanding of who you are and what you would like to achieve by running your own business. You will have begun to develop your self brand, and introduced to the concept of Ikigai and how you can build it into your personal and professional journey. Below are a few key elements covered over the duration of the workshop and what’s included:

  1. This workshop is made up of 2 modules and 4 Challenges
    1. Understanding Your Ikigai
    2. Be More Magpie
    3. Challenge One | Smashed Startups
    4. Challenge Two | Human Centric Design
    5. Challenge Three | Industry USPs
    6. Challenge Four | Solve Big Problem
  2.  One to one coaching calls with your dedicated Corkscrew Coach
  3. Access to the private How To: Ideate Startup Ideas  Studio on Corkscrew Backstage
  4. A pack of Corkscrews Sparking Startup Stack cards
  5. Access to Challenge worksheets and templates

MODULE ONE | UNDERSTANDING YOUR IKIGAI

Before you start ideating new business ideas it’s vital that you look at what inspires and influencers you. More and more people are looking to find that work life balance and to have a career in something they are passionate about, not just the money they can make. The Japanese concept of Ikigai is a great place to start looking to find your own purpose, to understand your key drivers in what you’re passionate about, what you’re good at, what people need and what you can be paid for. This module is key to unlocking those future ideas and business concepts and will allow you to begin on the next chapter of your working life.

MODULE TWO | BE MORE MAGPIE

With so much access to new information through our interconnected world it’s sometimes difficult to see the wood for the trees. We also feel that we need to develop and conjure completely new ideas and innovations and that it’s somehow cheating to look for inspiration from those around us, well let us be clear it’s not! In this module we’ll look at the concept of Magpieing (yes the bird!) and how you should start collecting all those things that catch your eye from websites to world food and branding to business models

CHALLENGE ONE | SMASHED STARTUPS

Creating a new business is as easy as taking a pack of nouns and smashing them together to create your very first startup concept. This challenge requires creativity and an open mind as you create a new product or service by simply bringing two things together. You’ll be challenged to create a new business from the cards you pick and to identify your new target audience and what benefits your new idea will bring to their life. In one pack there are more than 1000+ new business ideas waiting to be created, can you find the next million dollar idea?!

CHALLENGE TWO | HUMAN CENTRIC DESIGN

Coming up with a business idea is as simple as solving a problem for someone, so our next challenge introduces you to the concept of Human Centric Design. You’ll be challenged to work on your emotional intelligence as you start to empathise with those around you and look for new business ideas from the problems and desires they have. You’ll begin to put yourself in the shoes of those around you and to look at the opportunities that arise in solving their problems through the creation of new business ideas.

‘I LOVED THE CHALLENGES DURING MY CORKSCREW WORKSHOP. THEY REALLY HELPED ME TO GET CREATIVE AND THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX IN A FUN WAY.’

CHALLENGE THREE | INDUSTRY USPs

Even saturated and established markets can be the perfect environment for new business ideas and startups, just look at AirBnB in the accommodation sector or Uber in the world of taxi travel. In challenge number three you’ll learn about the importance of finding a Unique Selling Point (USP) in a crowded market and tasked with sparking a new startup to compete in a busy market place.

CHALLENGE FOUR | SOLVE BIG PROBLEMS

In our last challenge we’ll show you how companies (especially Social Enterprises) take massive global problems and break them down into bitesize solution based companies. You’ll be looking at the big problems that are important to you and shown how you can break these down into something more manageable and solvable through the creation of a new business idea. You’ll learn how you can become your own social startup hero and instil a sense of confidence in yourself that you can come up with small solutions to bigger problems.

On completion of this workshop you will feel more comfortable in ideation of new business concepts as well as developing your emotional intelligence and creative problem solving skills. You may also have the courage to take those first steps with an idea and see if it’s feasible (or SEAMLESS) to launch!
